Bathroom Tiles Resurfacing

Ceramic shower tiles may be damaged or broken over a period of years. This may include damage to the grout joints, or even individual tiles may crack, causing water to leak into the walls or floor space. The article gives idea about how professionals repair them to produce long lasting results.

If your ceramic tiles have some missing pieces you should replace them. When the tiles are chipped, you should get them repaired. Repairing or replacing the tile in bathrooms is complex. Hiring an expert to repair bathroom tile is good idea and also work done by expert’s produces long lasting results.

Assess the damage

The experts first assesses the damage. If there are only a few cracked, loose or missing pieces of tiles, a simple replacement job will sufficient. If the damage is minimal, painting the cracks in the tile with matching paint will be simpler than replacing the tiles. If the damage is too large to conceal with paint then the bathroom tiles will need to be replaced.

Tile repair process

For cracked tiles:
First tiles are cleaned using a household cleanser. Special ceramic glue is placed onto the cracked areas. The glue is left to dry for about 24 hours.
Using sandpaper, the dried glue is sanded until a completely flat area is obtained. In the end the dust is wiped out. The tiles should be totally clean before painting.
Later paint is placed over the damaged tile. The paint should dry for a day. The next step is to apply polyurethane as soon as the paint is dry. The polyurethane should dry for at least 8 hours.
Again sandpaper is applied for the dry polyurethane. Two more layers of polyurethane is applied. You must avoid walking on the tile for 24 hours.

Replacing the Damaged Tiles

The big job is getting the ceramic off the wall. Professional use grout saw to cut out the grout. Then, with a hammer and a chisel, the tiles are softly separated from the wall. Once that's done, the wall is sanded until smooth. Then the tile is set up using grout.
All this work is to be done by the professional for safety and long lasting results.
